Ford Bronco - Pre-Release Information From Ford

Ford has been keeping information on the new Bronco scarce, with few official specs or pictures available, even to Iowa Ford dealers like Ames Ford. However, it's clear that Ford plans to honor the Bronco's heritage with its new release. Unlike other rebooted brands like the Chevy Blazer, the 2021 Ford Bronco isn't getting the crossover treatment. It's still going to be that truck-based, off-road capable SUV that so many Iowans fell in love with.

Whether you remember your dad's old Ford Bronco, or used to drive one yourself, you know that the Ford Bronco was built with ruggedness in mind. It was the first 4x4 SUV to win the iconic Baja 1000, something no other 4x4 SUV has done since. Ford knows it has a lot to live up to when it comes to the all-new Bronco's design, and from first looks it looks very, very good. That brings us to the 2019 Baja 1000, where a prototype of the new Ford Bronco made its first appearance to much fanfare and acclaim.

Ford shocked racing fans and car enthusiasts alike by bringing a racing prototype of the Ford Bronco to the 2019 Baja 1000 in Mexico. While it likely has some significant differences from a production model, Iowa Ford fans will be able to get a feel for the 2021 Bronco's design language and identity by looking at the Bronco R.

We see the iconic boxy design return, with a tough-looking front grille. While there's no doubt the Bronco has been modernized for its release later this year, Ford has taken pains to bring its classic off-road SUV into the 21st century.

Off-roaders are probably most excited to see if the 2021 Ford Bronco can challenge the Jeep Wrangler for off-road dominance. But Iowa drivers and families will likely find that there will be more city-friendly versions of the Bronco. There are some advantages that will probably come from its platform, like capability in bad weather, that won't have to sacrifice drivability. Of course, we don't have official specs on its build or engine options yet, but it's easy to imagine the possibilities.
